Bregenz Festival 2015 – Turandot

Bregenz, 18 Nov. 15. Seventy years after it was founded, the Bregenz Festival will present a wide selection of events next summer, including world and Austrian premieres, the return of Turandot to the lake stage and a restaging of the work that began the tradition of the opera on the lake stage in 1946. The nearly five-week-long festival will open on 20 July in the evening with the first performance in Austria of Hamlet, the opera at the Festspielhaus. In all about 80 events are on the programme of the Bregenz Festival, which runs until 21 August. Altogether 176,000 tickets are available (not including dress rehearsals and crossculture night).

Princess Turandot remains very much in demand in her second season on the Bregenz stage. While the technical department has been making the lake stage winter-proof in recent weeks, advance sales for Turandot – Italian composer Giacomo Puccini’s final opera – have revealed a level of demand for tickets that is higher than it has been for many lake stage productions. Currently about one third of the 156,000 available tickets for the 23 performances have already been booked. In its first run last summer the opera – directed and staged by Marco Arturo Marelli – had the biggest total audience for a Puccini opera in the festival’s history. The first night is on 21 July.
