Acoustic Excellence at the Ali Kuşçu Mosque, Istanbul Airport
Bringing Clarity to a Challenging Acoustic Landscape
One of Turkey’s most remarkable new places of worship, the Ali Kuşçu Mosque at Istanbul Airport, combines stunning architecture with immense scale — featuring a main prayer hall for 8,000 worshippers, an outdoor worship area for 1,200, and an additional downstairs space for 1,000. However, the very architectural grandeur that makes the mosque awe-inspiring also posed significant challenges for sound reinforcement.
Acoustic Challenges & VIDA Solution
The mosque’s vast, domed ceiling (25 m diameter) and highly reflective surfaces — predominantly polished marble — resulted in a reverberation time exceeding 4 seconds, severely impacting speech intelligibility, which is crucial during sermons and prayer.
To overcome these conditions, our Turkish distributor Dinakord Elektronik San. Ve Tic. A. S. deployed a solution based on Kling & Freitag’s VIDA beam steering systems. Thanks to VIDA’s advanced beam-steering technology and custom FIR-based tuning, the system provided narrow vertical dispersion tailored precisely to the architectural and acoustic environment — ensuring clear, intelligible sound across every corner of the prayer hall.
“Working alongside Kling & Freitag on the Istanbul Airport Mosque was an exhilarating challenge: VIDA’s precision-engineered arrays tamed the massive, reflective dome and delivered crystal-clear speech intelligibility throughout the prayer hall—truly bringing the acoustics into harmony with the architecture.”

A Partnership of Excellence
We are proud to have contributed to such a landmark project. The VIDA Beamsteering System once again proved how well it adapts to highly reverberant, architecturally complex environments like large places of worship. This installation is a shining example of how innovative sound design and strong partnerships create impactful, lasting results.
“We’re incredibly proud to be part of this fantastic project at Istanbul Airport. The Ali Kuşçu Mosque demonstrates just how effectively our VIDA Beamsteering System performs in acoustically demanding environments. We sincerely thank our partner Dinakord for their outstanding expertise and commitment throughout the process.”
