KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen 2024 – Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass” in the Kuppelsaal Hannover
The mere selection of this piece brings beads of sweat to the brows of both musicians and sound engineers. Leonard Bernstein’s highly complex composition blends elements of jazz, classical music, and modern, almost pop-like sounds is really a challenge. Under the musical direction of Ingo Metzmacher, the NDR Radiophilharmonie, numerous soloists, and a massive ensemble of various Hannover choirs were expertly united to capture the full dynamism of the work.
The technical execution was in the capable hands of Christoph Bierer (certified Master for event technology) and sound engineer Paul Jeukendrup. The orchestra sound specialist “Da Capo” from Holland, together with Paul Jeukendrup, was responsible for the sound engineering. It quickly became clear after the first site inspection that the house system could not meet the high demands. Since “Da Capo” already has many of our systems in their rental inventory, it was evident that VIDA would be the solution of choice. The acoustic design of VIDA L allows for an excellent representation of the finest details in the sound image while offering maximum flexibility through next-generation beamsteering technology. The cardioid radiation ensures that even low frequencies are actively canceled to the rear, keeping the stage acoustically clean.
The performance of Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass” at the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen 2024 was a resounding success, thanks to the outstanding efforts of Christoph Bierer, Paul Jeukendrup, “Da Capo,” and especially Ingo Metzmacher. And of course we´re also a bit proud to have contributed a little bit to making the event an acoustic delight.
